Improve Parkinson’s Symptoms with Tai Chi
Parkinson's Disease brings with it a substantial challenge to an individual's coordination, balance, and movement. At our exercise class, we practice a variety of easy to learn and fun exercise programs to help us overcome these challenges.
Tai Chi
A lot of research has been performed in recent years on the effects of its practice for individuals with PD. Some of the benefits they found include- improved balance, reduced tremor / sway, and improved quality of life. Personally, I love how the smooth movements of Taichi helps individuals learn to move with greater ease. The calming effects of Taichi are also very valuable for individuals living with chronic conditions.
Strength - Balance- Coordination
You may have experienced some challenges with these qualities. We help you improve these attributes with practice of calisthenics, weight training, and stretching exercises.
Boxing
Boxing is another fun activity that we practice at this exercise class. Boxing encourages weight shifting, footwork, and movements that get your hands to the target in time! The most well known boxing program for Parkinson's Disease is actually Rocksteady Boxing, a program designed specifically to help people with this condition. At Plexus we do a bit of boxing practice appropriate for your skill level to help you improve your strength, balance, and speed in a fun and engaging way.
This event is open to anyone with Parkinson's Disease, no matter what stage of the condition you are at. If you have another neurological condition and would like to participate, please contact us to see if it would be a good fit for you. You can also RSVP at our meetup site.
